THE GIG LIST – NUMBER 13

OK, two nights out in Brighton for you. One on Halloween night and the other in early November, so get your backside’s in gear and get ready to dance until your shoes wear thin, coz these are two of the biggest DJ’s in the world right now! We are lucky and we are privileged to have them here, so make the effort because dancing to these guys is the exact reason us monkeys gave up walking on all fours…

EROL ALKAN
London-based super-DJ. Friend and remixer to just about everybody. King of the electro scene. Pioneer of the Indie scene. Producer, event organiser. This guy is everywhere! Loved by just about every scenester on the planet. Everything Erol touches seems to turn golden. With any scene, musical movement, or new powerful development in the world of music you will often find a quiet mover behind the scenes, pulling all the strings. Well Erol Alkan is that man. Having been the promoter for the last 10 years of the night Trash, (at London club The End), Erol hosted all the super-cool bands – Klaxons, LCD Soundsystem, Bloc Party etc etc. The list goes on and on. He won DJ of the year in Mixmag’s 2006 list. He’s also known for his outstanding remixes of Franz Ferdinand, Justice, Klaxons, amongst a million others. He’s also a fantastic producer, leading the way with Late Of The Pier‘s new album, Fantasy Black Channel, and is expected to throw his hands into Franz Ferdinand’s new work. His sets are so good, you can rest assured that if he’s playing it, it’s hot.

SURKIN
There’s this tidy little friendly rivalry that’s been setting up in Brighton over recent years between two event organisers – ‘Blah Blah Blah‘ and ‘Somewhere In The Universe…’. They both provide us with the world’s best dance DJ’s week after week at their respective venues – Digital and New Hero. You can see an example of Blah Blah Blah’s bookings above with Erol Alkan playing for them next month. To counter this ‘Somewhere…’ has got it’s hands on this other world class DJ – Surkin. Another Parisian-based French DJ from the fantastic Institubes label. He’s now a fully-fledged star of the thumping, fidget-house and jack-beat sound. This guy totally burns dancefloors up for kicks. Expect Brighton’s cool kids to be out for this one. He’s also a remixer for the likes of Justice, Boys Noize and Klaxons. One-nil ‘Somewhere…’ right? We will see…

Two superb nights out then. There’s also a bit more in November that I must pop in the next Gig List, so come back soon for more highlights from the amazing Brighton live scene.

  3. Hey

Erol Alkan is not a Blah Blah Blah night, it’s Wax:on. We are playing on the bill though. Just thought I’d clear that up.

Although we do have a Halloween Party on Friday 31st with Rex the Dog and Phones (Paul Epworth).

    Cheers

    K

Fuck it! I always always try and double check all facts and somehow there’s been a mix up. It seems I was totally misinformed.

Sorry folks, Kristian ( – I presume that’s you Kristian – ) from Blah Blah Blah is totall right to grip me up here. It’s a Wax:On event, rather than Blah Blah Blah (more info is found here – http://www.yourfutureisdigital.com/brighton)

Anyways, I stand by the rest of the article as ‘Blah Blah Blah’ and ‘Somewhere…’ continue to provide us with loads of cracking live sets in Brighton.

I’m off now to beat my gig-monkey’s with a large slipper for the error…

    All the best,
    Mike

Sussed it…Blah Blah Blah are playing a DJ set that night so that’s where the confusion crept in…
