THE REMIXES – PART 5 – THE TWELVES
It’s been a little while since we did a ‘remix special’ here on The Recommender. Previous editions, including the likes of Soulwax, DiscoTech, Bloc Party and The Golden Filter, proved to be amongst some of the most popular posts we’ve ever had on this blog. This only goes to prove the popularity and power of a good remix.
These days, checking the Hype Machine backs this up, as it’s famous ‘Top 100′ blogged tracks usually has tons of them. It’s something that we think is a little over-cooked here on The Recommender, so we make sure we reserve our ‘remix posts’ for only the finest, most outstanding efforts. This is a category that THE TWELVES slot into very neatly.
A very busy duo from the Brazillian shores of Rio De Janeiro, they bring an excellent sunny side to everything they remix. Often adding more Pop to an already Popped tune, their blends are undoubtedly still for the club floor. They have a positive bassline to all their selections, whilst allowing the magic of the original track to still remain, (often keeping most of the vocals), whilst they stir in some Funked tweaks for good measure.
Selected highlights are attached below for you to judge for yourselves. They regularly tour the world’s club scenes so you will undoubtedly be able to catch them live soon. The question is, are they true pretenders to Soulwax and DiscoTech‘s mighty remix authority?
LA ROUX – IN FOR THE KILL (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
NOAH AND THE WHALE – BLUE SKIES (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
ASOBI SEKSU – THURSDAY (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
A-HA – TAKE ON ME (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
THE FLAMING LIPS – THE YEAH YEAH YEAH SONG (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
FLEET FOXES – WHITE WINTER HYMNAL (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
THE VIRGINS – RICH GIRLS (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
RADIOHEAD – THERE THERE (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
ZEIGEIST – HUMANITARIANISM (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
DATABASE vs FRENCH HORN REBELLION – BEACHES & FRIENDS (The Twelves Remix) (ysi)
Please take a second to leave a comment, either letting us know which track is your favourite, or if you know of any other decent Twelves remixes that we’ve perhaps missed, as this sort of information lets us know what people are enjoying currently. Thanks, as always…

I really like your Post! =)
…but you forgot the stunning black kids – “i’m not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you” by the twelves. one of my fav’s of the duo.
cheers
The Wollium
Lovely stuff. Love The Twelves; they have big things in their future. Remixes I would’ve included are: Drugs In My Body – Thieves Like Us; Help I’m Alive – Metric; He’s Frank – The BPA and Reckoner – Radiohead. Cheers!
We considered the Reckoner track but thought one Radiohead effort was enough. The Black Kids is a good shout. We like the BPA remix, but the Metric track is a little too sickly sweet for us. We hadn’t banked the Drugs In My Body tune yet, so thanks for the heads up on that. Tidy…
Mike
One of my favorite The Twelves remixes is of the now disbanded Zeigeist’s song Humanitarianism. I don’t think it’s very well known, but it’s a great mix.
Please put up the tracks from “The Twelves Jam” too!!!
This is the biggest Twelves remix compilation I’ve seen anywhere. But where is the new “Beaches” remix and the one they did for Bacardi? There are a few more to complete the set here:
http://yeahdevelop.wordpress.com/2009/08/03/two-twelves/
Nice one Beatsmart! Thanks for the links too, although I should point out to everyone that I’m not trying to make a definitive list of Twelves tunes here, only trying to put up our faves is all. There’s many remixes out there, but we are interested which ones people are loving.
I’d only heard the ‘Hey Champ’ remix of that ‘Beaches & Friends’ tune, so glad to hear the Twelves have in fact completed a better version. I’ll have to add it to the above post immediately, should anyone else fancy grabbibng it…
Nuppio – Don’t have all the other tracks from the Twelves jam to offer you I’m afraid.
Olivia – Yet another great Twelves tune that I’ll add above. Gimme 10 mins and I’ll add all these.
Thanks
Mike
Love the Groove Armada remix, as well as the Two Hearts one.
Crikey, The Twelves have been sooooo busy!!! It seems we could’ve easily done a ‘part 2′ to this Twelves Remix Special! It’s become apparent that this often happens to blogs that write about The Twelves. Check it – http://thedockingstation.ca/2009/04/16/help-im-alive-the-twelves-remix/
That Groove Amada ‘Drop The Tough’ remix totally kicks it. Thanks for the heads up. Grab the tune here if you fancy it people – http://thedockingstation.ca/2009/04/16/the-twelves/
one of my favorite the twelves is missing. it is the erlend oye – sudden rush remix. but thanks for the nice collection anyways.
yay twelves! i was so hoping you guys would compile a list of them
my fav remix of them has to be either the “groove armada – drop the tough” or “yoa – theater of disco”
but in your list, gotta love rich girls!
Yeah we remember you requesting The Twelves way back when we did our remix special on DiscoTech. Glad to oblige…
Mike
Whoa Emm! That Theater of Disco song is rocking. The original is just as good as the remix.
1234 – Agreed, that tune is blindingly good.
Find it attached here people (plus a few other Twelves tunes) – http://toomanysebastians.blogspot.com/2009/01/our-favourite-remixes-by-twelves.html
Nice.
Mike
Or you can find that YOA remix here – http://74.220.219.63/~circlesq/2008/07/three-twelves.html
The Twelves are fucking awesome. I’ll second what Emm said about Theatre Of Disco remix, it’s great and like 1234 said, the original is pretty special too. Infact, their entire EP is great.
The Twelves have some brand new original tracks coming out soon. Can barely contain myself…
[It's weird how my awful rip of that Radiohead remix got around so quickly, surely somebody can do a better job than me
]
Love the Twelves, and second the recommendation on the Erland Oye track – it’s one of the best they’ve done, IMHO. Shame there’s not a decent version of that ‘There There’ mix. Much as I love them though, they’ll never beat Soulwax in my book. They’re king and not likely to be dethroned any time soon!
Hi Sean
Agreed – Soulwax are indeed quite exceptional.
Mike
Which mix is “that there”? I only have 30 minutes, Episode 2, BBC 5 min mix.. any others?
NEVERMIND!
1234 – Sorry we missed the chance to answer.
Not sure what you are asking. What do you mean by “that there”? Are you asking about the Radionhead tune “THERE there” or about which mix it comes from or something?
Sorry for being slow on the response (we are on UK time and it seems you left your message at 3:16am)
If easier you can always message us at – therecommenderblog@gmail.com
We will always try to help.
All the best,
Mike
The Asobi Seksu remix is still my favourite. Also, their remix of Radiohead’s Reckoner is fantastic. And the cover of Daft Punk’s Nightvision.
Hi Jaco
It was a toss up between Reckoner and There There for the Radiohead tracks. Both are great but we prefered There There in the end.
That Daft Punk is also great.
Thanks for popping by…
Mike
My favorite The Twelves Remix is Yuksek’s “So far away from the sea”
