THE RECOMMENDER 2010 PREVIEW
We are finally done dealing with 2009 and can now enjoy a look ahead to what the next twelve months has in store. As one of your essential guides on new music we are perhaps fulfilling our duty to scan the musical horizon and pluck out the highlights.
We have album news on some firmly set releases, some have definitely been discussed, some are simply rumours and some are wildly hopeful punts, but it’s always worth getting ridiculously excited right?
In our predictive preview of 2010 we will list the artist, any album name (if known) and any possible release dates (again, bear with us on the specifics). So sit back and enjoy the looser-than-loose, wildly stabbed, finger-in-the-air soothsaying and all the butterflies it creates.

So that’s it for 2009! What an outstanding year. We’ve loved your support. Looking ahead to 2010 it seems there’s many potentially brilliant albums due out, so expect lots of great coverage here.
Our blog also has many exciting, new things planned during 2010, including a revamped site, the launch of our monthly party showcases and we are looking for a new contributor from NYC (applications are still welcome into therecommenderblog@gmail.com for those interested? Obviously, only the most totally awesome need apply).
We love two things: music and our readers, so we simply wish to say thanks for joining us and from the above new albums it looks to be a very happy new year for all of us…

Hey Mike, have a great New Year too. This blog has been a staple of mine this year. Keep up the great work man. x
oh well, an avalanches album would be nice of course, but there’s nothing announced or even rumored – so i dont expect that one.
the knife album? there’s not going to be such thing. maybe the opera soundtrack, but people attending said it wasn’t very good afterall.
a new justice full length record would be great aswell, is that confirmed already?
senior by röyksopp is overdue, wasn’t it supposed to come out in fall 09? let’s just hope it’s really less poppy than junior. another dark and eerie dreijer track would be nice.
battleS (*hint*) would be another highlight – hoping with you!
as for the newcomers, i’m really curious about ellie & starsmith, marina and whb, let’s just hope that it’s going to be good stuff.
other interesting albums not listed, but about to be released this year by pepe deluxé and husky rescue.
This list has it’s caveats, as so much of it is on the words of others, and we know that talk often goes nowhere. Alas, there is some talk and some selective hints flying around about The Avelanches, but that’s been ongoing since their last album, so who knows…
Mike
p.s. Battle(s) now sorted. Thanks.
2010 looks to be shaping up to be a pretty ram packed year of big releases.
I’m looking forward to hearing the direction Alison Goldfrapp will take, Seventh Tree was that mix of pastoral folk, electronica and Beatles era Baby You’re Rich Man semi psych.
I’ve heard her latest soundtrack work which is pretty much like Scott Walkers string work mixed with Johann Johannson.
Arcade Fire in my opinion put the difficult second album worries to rest, Neon Bible in my book is an improvement on Funeral. I’m hoping their third outing will carry on the good work.
Rumors are that the Besnard Lakes are set to release something this year. Their Dark Horse debut was full of potential, it made most critics lists. Unfortunately a muted response and the juggling of day jobs have put back a follow up.
A new Justice and Edan long player would be most appreciated.

hehe!
Fucking opera! I know, I know…
I know, I’ve all but given up hope about a new Avalanches. They’re just toying with us.
Yeah Royksopp is overdue. And hear hear to a darker karin track. What else is there?
Ditto on fucking opera, Mike. Ditto…
Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Small Black etc. exciting! Maybe Goldfrapp can return to her previous style. I never could get into her last album–way to different. Not my cuppa tea.
Mike, I had Jonny Puma (Jonas) over at Le Tracasseur say he really liked this post specifically, and our blog too!
‘10 is gonna be aurally euphoric year! Thx Mindreader for leaving this link on your wall
These New Puritans and British Sea Power albums as well – wohoooo!
Just seen the cover for new Goldfrapp, which looks all a bit fey and airbrushed.
Also latest on Besnard Lakes is that an album is due in March, its title ‘The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night’. Should be a good one.
hi,
if you like two door cinema club, don’t miss kitsune meets ponystep @ heaven in London on 4th April 2010. Friendly fires and Crystal Fighters will be there too! Going to be off the hook,
see you there
