It’s worth keeping one eye on this Oxford trio, in fact, it’s probably worth keeping two. We’ve been in love with their reflective, light-as-air indie that floats along with it’s own momentum, ever since we first blogged them back in the summer. Following a successful wave of smart, intellectual bands of this kind, with Everything Everything, Delphic, Egyptian Hip Hop, they’re a strong tip for a BBC Sound Of 2011 Poll nomination.
Trophy Wife have their new video out today to back up the single for Microlight, released on Moshi Moshi on November 8th. It makes for interesting viewing, with slow motion and narrow depth of field shots, alongside a narrative involving actors – always a brave move in itself!
We are lucky enough in our home city of Brighton to enjoy their live show not once but twice in the coming weeks, as they play a show at the Jam venue tonight (Weds 20th October), before they’ve even played their debut London show, which is scheduled to be for their single launch party at Electrowerkz on 9th November. We then see them again as they return to support Foals in November, another Oxford band with whom they should eventually be standing shoulder to shoulder with, if they fulfill their promise in the coming years.
