THE BEST MUSIC BLOGS OF 2010

There are thousands of music blogs now in existence and it’s difficult to know where to turn, or indeed return to. It’s a global marsh of varying opinions, all discussing music, from hundreds of genres, but there’s still many that are truly outstanding, worthy of praise and a repeated visit. Well, we want to shine a light on those excellent blogs.

This isn’t The Bloggies, or any other grand annual award giveaway, we simply want to canvass our network of music bloggers to gauge the real highlights in music blogging that are out there. You may have your focus on creating a passionate blog, but we are certain you also feel in a network of others, so you’re aware of those bloggers that you love and agree with, from those new, small, independent ones, to the well-established, giant, global businesses. It’s time to pick your favourites and get your votes in and show your support.

Closing date is 12th December.

BASIC RULES -

1) We require a minimum and maximum of 3 nominations per comment.

2) This is about peer to peer acknowledgment, so it is only open to those who contribute to other music blogs. Please leave the name and/or link of your music blog in the comments section below your votes.

3) All three nominations must be different, so no voting for a blog more than once.

4) Any votes after 12th December will not be counted.

5) Only one set of nominations per person.

If you have any questions, or issues, then please let us know. This should be a fun, encouraging and positive exercise for all.  A poll for the best in music blogging, by music bloggers, for music bloggers. It doesn’t get more back-scratchingly awesome than this, so VOTE VOTE VOTE…

Thanks.

OH LAND

Forget dating sites, forget ‘Dutch courage‘ at your local bar, forget holding out for that pretty girl at the back of your classroom that’s never going to notice you, forget showing off your expensive cars and clothing, forget the gym – it’s all pointless now, because we’ve found that special someone just for you. We say this with such conviction because the subject on today’s Recommender is worthy of a place in your heart.

If you’re looking for someone with classic good looks, involving a set of Scandinavian cheek bones that would have made Audrey Hepburn question her mirror and a pair of moon eyes that would have the tides re-considering who they should be following, then we may well have found her. If you’re partial to a kooky smile and a little playful happiness, of the kind that would have Amelie looking like Ebenezer, then we’ve got just the person. If you like you’re leading ladies to have a voice as cool as a glacial breeze, alongside self-penned pop songs that could open flowers like the sunshine, then look no further. If you’d enjoy your ideal woman to have a genuine talent, creating timeless songs that mix up the classical with the contemporary, like a Michelin star chef of music, then look no further. She’s also tall, blonde (on occasion) and has on her Curriculum Vitae ‘former student at the Danish Royal Ballet Academy‘.

Salivating yet? You will be once you hit the below play buttons. Indeed, if pushing all the right buttons is a talent in itself, then clearly this is one artist who’s as adept as a touch typist! We first noticed Naana Oland Fabricius, aka Oh Land, during the summer, after Epic Records picked up on her at last year’s SXSW performance and began work on getting her noticed outside of her European home. She released her debut LP in Denmark around the end of 2008, but having relocated to Brooklyn, NYC, we are now receiving material ready for the broader global market, with her first self-titled EP released last week, and a full album due in 2011.

Intelligent, theatrical, electronic pop is an area of music that’s packed with plenty of talented competition – just read the pages of The Recommender to see the many dozens we’ve covered over the last few years – however, there’s the perfume of something original and genuinely exciting about this potential star. She even invents her own instruments for fucks sake! In reality, love might not actually be on the cards with a musician that is clearly out of almost everyone’s league, for this really is a ‘game over’ artist, but we can confirm that we are very much among her many admirers.  (MB)
