BEARDYMAN – ALBUM AND TOUR NEWS

Do you know Beardyman yet? If not, you soon will. He’s a one-off freak of nature and is releasing what promises to be a unique debut LP, ‘I Done A Album‘, on Rob Da Bank’s Sunday Best label, in February 2011. It’s hard to believe that this work is made with one guys mouth on a variety of loops. It’s a real pinch yourself listen. Every sound, beat, riff and vocal is done by one man. Yes, everything!

The beatboxing champion, aka Darren Foreman, has been a staple diet for Brighton clubbers over recent years, joining the scratch king, JFB (see below), on stage at a regular residency, Battlejam, at our local Audio venue. It’s always an extraordinary display of skills, bending the rules of turntablism and the output from Beardyman’s mouth alongside his samplers is nothing short of astonishing. Seriously. This is the kind of ability that goosebumps were invented for.

JFB – KILLING IN THE NAME OF

The beauty in his skill is not only the ability to produce a broad range of sounds, across a multitude of genres, mainly improvised on the spot, but also that he packs it all with so much humour and wit. It gives you that strange feeling of amusement with astonishment. Laugh whilst he blind-sides you. Further evidence for this comes from his multitude of Youtube videos, which show him just as comfortable at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival as he was at the (now legendary) Reading Festival performance from August 2010.

Touted by the BBC as “the King of Sound and Ruler of Beats”, or as i-DJ put it “All we can say is, Beardyman – fuck he’s good!”, this is no Rahzel, this a completed package – an entire performance – a studio in a mouth. Catch him on his upcoming Where Are You Taking Me? tour from 17th February to 12th March next year. We promise this will sell out, so get your tickets early.
