THE VACCINES – NEW VIDEOS

The Vaccines are the buzz band de jour in the UK, getting slots on Jools Holland, coverage in NME, plays on Radio One and a handful of selected headline shows.

To be honest it feels a little rushed and they must be careful not to be the brightest burn, as we all know sparks don’t last. We saw them live on Monday and although we enjoyed their live set, we were concerned that there wasn’t a massive amount on offer beyond the excellent singles, ending their set soon after it started and with no encore.

On the flip side, this is a very, very new band and we mustn’t judge it too early, or indeed put unfair expectations on them. We simply thought it too soon for a headline show at a 300 capacity venue with such a short set.

With the catapult fired, the PR machine understandably is in gear to capitalise and so today we can offer you not one but two videos, for their tracks, ‘Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra)’ and ‘Blow It Up’ - without doubt two fantastic, energetic tracks, which have ‘indie anthem’ written all over them. Here’s hoping it’s a true sign of a promising future, rather than a band being force fed to us by the hungry media. (MB)

  1. Too true, unfortunately. Your feet are firmly on the ground, and probably rightly so! Really hoping for some more killer tunes, but the other stuff I’ve heard isn’t vindicating any early interest in them yet.

Thanks Phil. Time will tell, but it’s also probably worth saying that blogs, including The Recommender, are just as guilty regarding the media saturation.

In our defence we are often considered the first line of attention on most new music, so it doesn’t seem out of place on blogs like ours. What seems unusual in this case is the added exposure on television shows, magazines and established venues etc.

One thing for sure is that the band aren’t responsible for the frenzy, so lets hope it galvanizes them, rather than drowns them.

      Mike
