We first covered the extraordinary Alex Winston back here, having been swept off our feet by this amazing individual. Having had initial backing from the Neon Gold stable, this special talent has been causing blog waves ever since the introduction.
Her motown-inspired, Detroit roots are dripping all over everything she releases, with bright, energetic, soulful pop that blinds you with sunshine at every turn. This is an artist that’s instantly likeable, initially pulling at our heartstrings with the brilliant tune, ‘Choice Notes‘, which managed to bowl us over, standing out as it did from any other contemporary artist around. Her bravery continued to the next few tracks that appeared, with ‘Medicine‘, ‘Locomotive‘ and ‘Animal Baby‘, which all flew around the blogs, showing off a tight production, done by the awesome duo, The Knocks.
Now releasing under their label, Heavy Roc, the debut mini-album has begun it’s build up and today we received the latest teaser, with the title track, ‘Sister Wife‘. It’s as palatable as pop gets, fizzing on your tongue but also leaving you with a satisfying lengthy after taste. Dramatic, huge and wonderfully sung by her genuinely unique voice.
It’s one of the most hotly anticipated albums due in 2011, so whilst we are salivating at the thought we are pleased to announce it’s release date is planned for March 4th, (February 7th digitally). Between now and then she plans a string of UK dates for both the NME Magazine and Q Magazine.
