There’s a quite a few Youtube channels showcasing artists in a stripped back, acoustic performance, bringing you a unique experience in a unique setting. You can consider the variety of Balcony Sessions that are around, or the inventive Black Cab Sessions, which squeeze the artists into the back of a London taxi and drive them from A to B for the price of a song. Our favourite to date is the Watch Listen Tell channel, which not only has some fantastic selections, but films the whole thing in such high quality that it serves up the artist’s performance in brilliant definition.
Next up today we show off Bands In Transit, which is a series where the sessions take place at the back of a transit van – a vehicle synonymous to most bands that set out on nationwide tours. They’ve completed a whole batch of recordings throughout the recent Great Escape Festival, which is based in our home city of Brighton.
The artists on show include The Joy Formidable, Grouplove, Cloud Control, Dog Is Dead, Alex Clare, Tribes, Dry The River, Guillemots, Ed Sheeran, and James Vincent McMorrow, the latter of which we show off below. The series blends clips of Brighton mid-festival alongside the artists giving a batch of enjoyable performance. The reason we picked out James Vincent McMorrow from the list is that his incredible talent still shines as brightly when stripped back, perhaps more so. He suits this kind of raw performance and proves to be as mesmeric as any we’ve seen on this style of showcase. (MB)
