EVERYTHING EVERYTHING – GIG NEWS

It’s no secret that The Recommender is a massive supporter of the Manchester-based quartet, Everything Everything. They earned the accolade of Track of the Year 2010, with Suffragette Suffragette in December, as well as grabbing a top five position in our Albums of 2010, with their début Man Alive.

The album was subsequently toured around the UK, to much acclaim, before they repeated the circuit on board the NME tour bus. They now stand at the foot of Festival Mountain, as another (rainy) British summer brings us an endless run of field-based frivolity. As you can see below, they’re hitting plenty of the major festivals, including a selection from around Europe, but they start with the big daddy – Glastonbury.

Prior to this tour of rural performances they’re setting up a couple of festival warm-up gigs. We’re lucky enough in Brighton to get the first of these preparation shows at the Concorde 2 venue on Friday (24th June). We’ve been reliably informed that the band have also been working on their second album, so we hope to witness the possible first outings of some new material, alongside the début’s big hitters.

It will be particularly interesting to see if there are any signs of life after their promising beginnings. We had an exceptional amount of talent, skill and originality on show with the first album, so the future looks bright, but it’s also worth noting that they weren’t burnt out with over-saturated hype, which is so commonplace in today’s music media. It’s signs like these that suggest this band could slowly grow into one the UK’s biggest and best. Could this be a band that headlines one of these festival stages in the future? (MB)
