The BBC Sound Of 2012 poll has been described as “the definitive annual list of exciting new artists to watch out for“. It’s a poll that The Recommender has proudly been asked to vote on for the last three years, which not only helps confirm music blogs as an established media within the music industry, but more importantly it helps us to do the one thing that we’re here for - to help people discover great new music.
However, this year there exists a parallel poll, a non-definitive list if you will, but one that’s just as intriguing. In the background a broad selection of UK music bloggers have quietly been chatting about designing an alternative poll using exactly the same rules as it’s BBC counterpart and the results are in. It’s aim is not to deride or criticise the BBC vote, but to run in tandem, serving up a comparative suggestion specifically from the music blogger’s world.
The Recommender is proud to have been included in both polls. The full list of involved bloggers can be seen at the bottom of this post. The reason all the involved bloggers are simultaneously posting about this today is due to the BBC releasing their ‘long list’, which shows us the top 15, (with their top 5 due for confirmation in the new year), so it’s only fair that The Blog Sound Of 2012 poll also unveils it’s long list of 15, so it can be given a direct comparison.
