THE GOOD NATURED – EXCLUSIVE NEW TRACK

Following our post a few weeks ago about The Good Natured‘s cover of a Sufjan Stevens tune, (find that post here), we have been fortunate enough to obtain yet another fresh cut.

This time we are giving away a remix of their tune, Be My Animal, which was released as a single on November 1st. The new edit comes from the hands of the UK producer, Max Cooper, who’s been responsible for many remixes over recent months, from Hot Chip, to Portishead, to Au Revoir Simone, to Peaches.

Max tends to apply his own brand of paint stripper to the songs he’s handed, creating a slightly bleak but rather touching minimalism. An effect that’s grown in popularity in 2010 with the likes of The XX, James Blake and Mount Kimbie. The tunes he retouches become recognisably his, but still give the original artist something fresh and enticing to use.

With this new remix he’s maintained some of the pace and vocals, which works well, as the original single packs plenty of power, but he’s cut and pasted the pop song into a grown up world of chops and blips. The signature style found in his other works applies here too and it’s perhaps most impressive with what he does with Sarah McIntosh’s vocals, jerking them in and out like a strobe light.

We list both the original and the remix below for you to enjoy and contrast. Expect things to ramp up for The Good Natured in 2011, as more arrives out of this talented stable. (MB)

DELS VIDEOS

We adore the London MC, Kieran Dicken, also known as DELS, but he’s never featured on the pages of The Recommender before now, so what better excuse than a feature on his awesome videos, having had the new one, for the tune Trumpalump, released in recent weeks.

Produced by Hot Chip‘s Joe Goddard, who also makes cameo appearances in the videos, features in the songs, as well as contributing remixes, showing off just how keen he is to back this special urban talent. It’s understandable when you get beats, basslines and a flow this outstanding.

Witty, descriptive lyrics, Sing-along choruses, a unique style and good looks ensure that DELS will have a large crossover appeal and chart attraction. This makes him a definite tip for a massive 2011, as we build up to the full album, so we look forward to reporting on it’s progress and eventual release. In the meantime enjoy these early showcases, both excellently created by the Us Design Studio
