HOW GOOD IS THIS!!!??? – NUMBER 11

This came out about 2 years ago, so is nothing new, but it is however one of the finest remix/mash-ups going in my opinion. I love it and just in case you don’t yet own it, you can now love it too. Ahhh…

I beleive there are rules to a really good remix, mash-up or cover. You have to get something new from it. I believe it has to twist the original song into something fresh. Like a good cocktail, the original ingredients may individually be perfectly consumable, but mixed well they perform a whole new sensation.

Great examples could be MGMT‘s ‘Kids‘ recently remixed by Soulwax at one end of the spectrum, or the cover of Nine Inch Nails‘ ‘Hurt‘ by Johnny Cash at the other. Both created something outstanding.

The remix I list below is a blend of a Kanye West track, ‘Get Em high’ and The Knife‘s ‘Heartbeats‘, all chopped up by the fantastic A-Trak. He is the DJ and all-round master turntablist for Kanye on tour. We love all three of them.

Enjoy.

See you back here real soon…

HOW GOOD IS THIS!!!??? – NUMBER 9

I barely ever write about Justice themselves. Being so central to one of my scenes, Electro, you would think they would be all over this blog. I do often refer to them and I use them in context for other acts or DJs, but I hardly ever write about Justice themselves. They’ve never had a ‘Recommender’, ‘Gig List’ or ‘How Good Is This…’ posting before. This is mainly because there really isn’t much left to say about them that hasn’t already been said a billion times.

Although Justice are very much Daft Punk’s pumped-up children, they are still the modern behemoths of the Electro scene. With their super-massive album, , released in 2007, they took the global Electro scene by the balls and thus thousands of Electro blogs went crazy for them. With The Recommender only being born in March 2008 I therefore simply couldn’t add any more that would contribute further. However, this will change as new releases arrive from them.

This posting has come about because, whilst I was away on my holidays in Europe, they released the news that they are due to bring out a DVD in November 2008 entitled, A Cross The Universe, showcasing a kind of ‘year in the life…’ documentary. Created by Roamin Gavram, So-Me, and Justice, it’s brought to you by Ed Banger Records. I attach the trailer for the DVD below to get you excited.

Watching this and the other clip below it of them performing in New York made me think of just how awesome they are live and how seeing them at The Astoria last year was one of the best live gigs I’ve ever been to. You’ve never seen a crowd go this ape-shit!

For all those Recommender fans that have ever caught Justice live – this is for you…

I cannot wait to catch them again some day and be sure that if they release any new material soon, I’ll be all over it.

Mike
