NEDRY – NEW SINGLE

We’ve been keen fans of Nedry since we first covered them back at the end of 2009. As time has rolled on it seems the UK’s appetite for dark, atmospheric, post-dubstep music has continued to swing in their favour.

Chris and Matt are joined by an exceptionally talented singer, the Japanese-born Ayu Okakita, and together they make very special music indeed. Her hypnotic voice is the perfect lifting accompaniment over Chris and Matt’s heavy, industrial productions.

Fans of Bjork, Portishead and the more recent, Paper Crows or Emika, will absolutely adore this. The new single, Dusk Till Dawn, is now available to download from their Soundcloud account, but it gets a full official release through Monotreme Records on March 14th.

They plan to do their first ever shows in the US at this year’s SXSW, so if you’re going to the festival we strongly suggest you spare some time for this trio. Prior to that they’re doing a couple of shows in London, including a showcase for Radio One’s Huw Stephens on Tuesday 8th March at The Social.

Check out the new single directly below, plus the new video by Juzz Media. In addition we also have the video for the tune that first hooked us, for their extraordinary song, A42. If you like what you hear, then head back to The Recommender for more news in due course, as the band are planning to hit Japan in support of Maps & Atlases later in 2011. (MB)

NEDRY – DUSK TILL DAWN

PAPER CROWS – NEW TRACK

Did you ever hear ‘Stand Alight’ by this London duo? It’s such an extraordinary tune that its had us following the pair like a weird stalker ever since it crossed our paths last year. You can check it out at the foot of this page, however the reason for this new attention is to shine a light on their latest offering, ‘Fingertips’.

We first gave them the full Recommender treatment back in October (here), pointing out their similarity to the likes of Emika, Nedry and The Good Natured. Their ability to form music with a dramatic maturity has been continued with the same wonderful skill on this new work.

It helps build up the interest as we look forward to their debut album, which is due for a release this summer. We will let you know more details about that as they are made available, but in the mean time you can digest the below tune.

The next official single will be ‘Follow The Leader’, which is due out on February 21st. If you can’t quite wait until then you can also see them live supporting Anna Calvi (a recent nominee on the BBC Sound Of 2011 poll), on February 4th at the Camden Barfly.
